I remember early in my career, on the way to a leadership conference (for those in my field, early-mid career who were nominated to attend based on the perception that they were future leaders), I read an article about “service leadership”. It really stuck with me and was a guiding principle in my own leadership style. I was in service to the people and organization that I was leading, not for my own gain.

Spot on Heidi - Servant Leadership is big theme in the I/O field. First coined by Robert Greenleaf in 1970 from his 38 years at AT&T where he argued that “best leaders were servants first, and the key tools for a servant-leader included listening, persuasion, access to intuition and foresight, use of language, and pragmatic measurements of outcomes.” Here’s a fun bio on him and the concept https://greenleaf.org/robert-k-greenleaf-biography/
